Police in Guangzhou said that the death of an intoxicated woman who fell from the 30th floor of an apartment building early this month was a suicide and that she was not thrown out of the window by three South Korean men, the New Express reported yesterday.
Tan Jing, a 23-year-old native of Henan Province, was seen falling from a 30th floor apartment window at Dongfeng Plaza in Guangzhou, capital city of Guangdong Province, in the early morning on April 5.
Tan was wearing a bra and pink shorts and was drunk at the time of the fall. She died at the scene after hitting a beam on the 13th floor.
Her death drew wide attention on the Internet as witnesses at the building said Tan, who was initially described as a sex worker, was thrown out of the window by three South Korean men she took home, according to previous reports.
Some reports said Tan was an actress who appeared in small roles on television dramas.
Previous reports also cited a neighbor identified as Wang as saying he heard an argument between Tan and the three men. Wang told a newspaper the men wanted to pay only one combined fee after she served all of the South Koreans.
But police ruled out murder as they said they found a trail where the woman climbed to the window in the restroom from where she jumped, the report said.
The metal bars installed on the restroom window had been loosened, and Tan's footprints were found on the toilet bowl, the report said.
Tan, who had visited South Korea for training in the past, was said to have been an alcoholic for some time before her death. The Qingming Festival was a difficult time for her as it reminded her of her father, who was murdered.
