广州市民排队卖金饰
There is a growing trend that Guangzhou citizens sell their gold jewelry in
the worldwide gold price hike.
The newly-opened Gold Exchange Hall has witnessed lines of citizens who
wait for trading off their gold.
The sales volume reached nearly 600,000 yuan in the first three days after
the opening of the hall, according to officials from Yuebao Gold Investment Co.,
Ltd. who is in charge of the hall.
The employees were hurry-scurry while sellers had to wait in front of the
counter. At the same time, telephone calls for inquiry came in continuously.
According to the officials, sellers have mostly come from Guangzhou whereas
some have gone a long way from surrounding cities such as Dongguan and Shunde.
100-yuan mooncakes to take dominance
今年月饼百元以内占主流
Made-in-Guangdong mooncakes are expected to be sold mainly at the price of
80 to 100 yuan this year, almost the same as that of last year with a few
exceptions.
The costs of mooncakes this year are a sensitive topic due to increases in
raw materials such as sugar, human costs and petroleum. Prices of mooncakes have
had a slight rise in some regions including Beijing.
Despite the increases, Guangdong mooncake producers have been hesitant to
raise their prices for fears that customers will give them up. The only way they
can rely on to counteract the increases is to get rid of deluxe packing
materials, said the producers.
Guangzhou's deluxe hotels to be
doubled
广州5星级酒店将翻番
Wang Xiaoling, vice-mayor of Guangzhou, said the city would have nearly 30
five-star hotels within three to five years, double the current number and
amounting to nearly 8,000 extra rooms, according to ycwb.com.
The website report cited industry concerns as to whether so many deluxe
hotels were actually needed in Guangzhou, pointing to the example of Dongguan,
where surge in deluxe hotel construction had led to vicious price
competition.

Guangdong raises lowest wage standards
广东大幅调高最低工资
Starting from September 1, the lowest salary standards in Guangdong will
enjoy a dramatic increase while the increase rate may vary from region to
region.
The raise will turn the province into the region with the highest lowest
salary standards in the nation. A total of 23 million migrant workers in the
province will reap the most benefits from the raise.
The lowest salary will rise from 684 yuan to 780 yuan in Guangzhou.
A chain reaction has been triggered nationwide due to the increase.
Shanghai and Jiangsu have been planning to raise their lowest salary, which
remains 690 yuan, to 700 yuan.
